Research-Based Relationship Coaching
Your relationship deserves to thrive through every new chapter
Whether you've just said "I do" or you're navigating the beautiful chaos of new parenthood — I help couples understand how they're wired together and build a lasting connection grounded in science.

Who I Work With
Relationships at a turning point
Life's biggest milestones are also the moments when relationship dynamics shift most. I specialize in helping couples navigate these transitions — proactively and with confidence.
New & Expecting Parents
A baby changes everything — sleep, intimacy, identity, priorities. Most couples are shocked by how much strain this puts on their relationship. You don't have to figure it out alone.
- Feeling more like co-managers than partners
- Intimacy and connection fading under exhaustion
- Unspoken resentments building over division of labor
- Losing your identity as a couple
Newlyweds & Engaged Couples
The early years of marriage set the patterns that last a lifetime. Investing in your relationship now — before challenges escalate — is the most powerful thing you can do.
- Merging different communication styles
- Aligning on values, goals, and expectations
- Building healthy conflict resolution habits early
- Creating a shared vision for your future
My Approach
Where organizational science meets love
My published research examined something deceptively simple: when two people share — or differ in — personality and values, how does that shape their long-term satisfaction and commitment? I studied this in professional settings. But the psychology is identical in romantic ones.
That research became the backbone of my coaching. Understanding how your personalities interact, where your values align, and where they diverge isn't just interesting — it's the key to building a relationship that lasts.
- Personality Dynamics
- Values Alignment
- Conflict Management
- Trust & Intimacy
- Shared Vision
- Long-term Commitment

About Dr. Byza
From organizational science to relationship coaching
My path to relationship coaching started somewhere you might not expect: the workplace. For years, I published research on how personality similarities and differences between two people affect their long-term satisfaction and commitment — in professional partnerships. What I found, again and again, was that the same psychological forces driving success or friction at work were the very ones shaping romantic relationships.
That realization changed my focus. I began studying what the science of human compatibility — values alignment, personality dynamics, patterns of commitment — looks like inside a marriage. Combined with my doctorate in psychology and over a decade of coaching, I built a method that translates this research into something couples can actually use.
My workshops don't ask you to revisit childhood wounds or analyze where things went wrong. They give you a clear picture of how you and your partner are wired — where you naturally complement each other and where you'll need to build bridges — and then give you the tools to do exactly that.
A note on credentials & scope
My doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) is a research degree in psychology from the University of Bielefeld — not a clinical qualification. I am a coach, not a licensed psychologist or therapist, and my work is intentionally designed that way: skills-based, proactive, and grounded in research. When individual therapy is also appropriate, I refer clients to trusted specialists in my network.
Transparency
Is coaching right for you — or do you need therapy?
It's a fair question and I want to answer it honestly. Coaching and therapy serve different needs. Here's how to think about it — and when I'll refer you to someone else.
Traditional Therapy
- You're processing trauma or grief
- Untreated mental health conditions are present
- One or both partners need deep personal healing
- Crisis intervention is needed
- Clinical diagnosis or treatment is required
Dr. Byza's Coaching
- You want to strengthen your relationship
- You're navigating a major transition (new baby, marriage)
- You want to build skills before challenges escalate
- You're proactive, not in crisis
- You want practical tools grounded in research
My doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) is a research degree in psychology — not a clinical license. I am a coach, not a licensed psychologist or therapist. If therapy is what you need, I'll tell you directly and connect you with the right specialist.
